Need a family lawyer?
Every province has a service or directory that helps parents find a family lawyer. Find yours.
How this works
The worksheet follows the Guidelines in order: the table amount for the paying parent’s income (section 3), then special or extraordinary expenses shared in proportion to both parents’ incomes (section 7). Print it or save it as a PDF from the result.
A worked example
Two children live with Parent B in Ontario. Parent A earns $85,000 and Parent B earns $40,000. Daycare costs $10,000 a year after subsidies and tax savings, and hockey costs $1,200.
- Table amount (section 3): $1,296 a month for two children on $85,000.
- Special expenses (section 7): $11,200 a year. Parent A earns 68% of the combined income, so pays $7,616 a year, or $635 a month.
- Total from Parent A: about $1,931 a month.
What to bring to a lawyer, mediator or court
The worksheet shows each step, the rule it comes from and the date of the table used, so the other parent, a mediator or a lawyer can check it line by line. Bring it with each parent’s last three tax returns and Notices of Assessment, recent pay stubs, and receipts for each special expense. Courts and lawyers use their own software for the final number, but a clear worksheet makes that conversation shorter and cheaper.
Not sure what income to use? Start with the guideline income calculator. Parenting time of 40% or more? Use the shared custody calculator for the table part.
Common questions
Can I file this worksheet with the court?
It is not a court form. Courts have their own financial statements and forms in each province. The worksheet is a clear summary you can share with the other parent, a mediator or a lawyer, and use to check the numbers in a draft agreement.
Which special expenses can be added?
Section 7 covers child care for work or school, health costs over $100 a year not covered by insurance, extra school costs, post-secondary education and extraordinary extracurricular activities. They must be necessary and reasonable for the child.
Should I enter the full cost of daycare?
Enter the cost after subsidies, tax deductions and tax credits. Section 7 is shared on the real after-tax cost.
Is anything I enter saved?
No. The worksheet is built in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to us or stored.
